Real-life location of animated film A Whisker Away

Partners Information: Fans of the animated film "A Whisker Away" (available to view on Netflix) will be pleased to know the setting of the film is based on a real place in Japan. 

Tokoname City in Aichi Prefecture is famous for Tokoname-yaki and the area retains a charming Showa-Era atmosphere, the period when the production of Tokoname wares were at their peak. This charming area is not only popular with pottery lovers, but also photographers and those looking for historic heritage buildings.

   

Places in Tokoname City that feature in the film include: 

  • Pottery Footpath, in particular Clay Pipe Hill (Doanzaka)
  • Tokonyan – a giant guardian cat that is 3.8 metres tall and 6.3 metres wide 
  • Climbing Kiln (Nobori-gama) - the largest existing climbing kiln in Japan
  • Hojo Park
